Advocacy has always posed a dillemma for teacher-librarians. It as always seemed more important to be busy doing our jobs than talking about how important our jobs are. After all, it is tough to advocate if you do not have anything for which to advocate. The problem is, while we know that what we do is important to students and teachers, the reality is that when difficult budget cuts have to be made, the library program is first on the chopping block. It is hard not to take such decisions personally, but it also serves to remind us why advocacy is a vital part of the work we do.
